In a best-of-three quarterfinal series, No. 14 Western Michigan (20-13-1, 11-13-0 NCHC) heads on the road as a six seed to take on No. 18 St. Cloud State (15-14-5, 11-9-4 NCHC), a three seed. The first game of the best-of-three series takes place Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in Minnesota, with games scheduled for all three days this weekend (Sunday's game is only if needed).

St. Cloud State is looking to repeat as conference champions after winning last year's tournament as a fourth seed. The Huskies have one other conference title, which came back in 2016.
Western Michigan has never won the NCHC tournament. Last year, the Broncos got knocked out in the first round.
This year, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan played each other four times. The Huskies won three of those four games, with the Broncos' lone win coming in St. Cloud in overtime by a final score of 4-3.
